In a post, META, while planning to work with other messaging platforms of the functioning of its interoperability features and lighting the limits, said that the company needed more time than the time given. Tech veteran said that he has been building a security and privacy-focused process for interpreting for almost two years and has consulted the European Commission.
According to the social media company, technical challenges with interoperability are the main reasons for delays. However, the company aims to provide personal text messaging, voice messages, as well as photos, videos and other Stord files to share photos, videos and other Stord files by the end of the year. However, META has not given any timeline. Meta says that implementing group chat and calling features remains in its plan.
To make interoperability possible with WhatsApp, third-party providers will need to sign an agreement to enable third-party chats. Highlighting the technical points, the post stated that the noise protocol uses framework to encrypted all data between Whatsapp and users and servers. As a part of the protocol, third-party providers will need to do something that the company calls ‘noise handshake’, which is to pay a payload to the server with JWT tokens.
At the same time, Meta also said that as long as the data is in the server of WhatsApp and in the transit, it will take responsibility for E2EE, but it cannot ensure it after the third-party client receives the data.
