YouTube is the major medium of misinformation worldwide, claims of fact checking organizations


More than 80 fact checking organizations in a letter to YouTube have spoken of misinformation on its platform. The letter states that YouTube is allowing its platform to manipulate, exploit others by dishonest people. Fact checking organizations say that this problem is particularly prevalent in non-English-speaking countries.

According to a news agency report, all fact checkers are members of the international fact checking network. These include the Philippines’ rapler, Africa check, the science feedback of France and dozens of other groups. All of them have reprimanded YouTube, saying that he discusses about deleting or not deleting the content.

Fact checkers wrote that displaying information related to fact-checking is more effective than removing content. These fact checkers have also requested YouTube to take action against those who violate the rules repeatedly and intensify efforts against misinformation in other languages ​​other than English.

In its statement, YouTube spokesperson Elena Hernandez said that the company has invested heavily in all the countries where people prepare content. He has described fact checking as an important tool. Also said that this is a small piece of a large puzzle.

Talking in the context of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had ordered the 20 YouTube channels and two websites that spread fake news and block two websites. Two orders were issued by the ministry. In one of these, YouTube was instructed to block 20 channels and stop websites in others. Content was posted on these YouTube channels on issues like demonstrations, citizenship (amendment) laws. Along with this, they were also trying to incite minorities against the central government.
