According to Digit’s report, this bot (the name is kept secret due to male utility) is selling open personal data. Only by entering the mobile number, it removes the entire details. Not only this, this service is also offering monthly unlimited access for Rs 4,999. The publication team itself claimed to test this bot and found that in only a few seconds the entire profile was in front of them, including name, father’s name, current and old addresses, alternative numbers and even information related to Aadhaar.
It is being suspected that this data has been collected from public utility, fintech apps and data from telecom companies for many years. Some results were 3-4 years old, but still were so accurate that after seeing them, work like identity theft, fraud KYC, loan scam can be done easily. In addition, these details can also be used to target sim cloning, creating fake accounts, bank scams or even someone’s family.
It is probably impossible to be completely safe, but you can definitely reduce the risk by taking some steps. We will advise you to lock your base by visiting UIDAI site. Be alert to SIM porting or fake KYC request. If you suspect any kind of activity, then call 1930 or go to cybercrime.gov.in and inform it.
