The worldwide popular messaging service Whatsapp has assured to curb international spam calls. The central government has decided to send notice to WhatsApp owned by META regarding this problem. WhatsApp has promised to maintain the privacy and security of users.

WhatsApp said that on its platform, users are given blocks and report options to avoid unwanted calls and messages. Along with this, the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning is also being increased, which can reduce the number of spam calls to half. On the report of deciding to send notice to the company on behalf of the IT ministry, the WhatsApp spokesperson said in a statement, “Our users are very important for us. We are fully associated with the government’s goal of keeping users safe. WhatsApp is posed in the end-to-end enchty services to ensure the safety of users.”

This statement states, “We have strengthened our artificial intelligence and machine learning system to reduce these cases. This will reduce such calls to half.” Earlier, IT Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar had told that his ministry would send notice to WhatsApp on the problem of calls coming from unknown international numbers. He said that it is the responsibility of digital platforms to ensure the safety of users and they are accountable for this. If there is a violation of privacy of users on any such platform, then the government will take appropriate action on it.

In the last few days, WhatsApp users are getting international spam calls in the country. Many users complained about this on social media platforms like Twitter. Truecaller, which providing caller identity service on mobile phones, has also prepared to provide this service on WhatsApp. This will make it easier for users to avoid spam calls on the Internet. This feature is in beta phase and can be launched soon. In this report, TruColor had told that users in India get an average of 18 spam calls per month.
