WhatsApp engineering director Dick Brover confirmed Wires that when the upcoming chat interoperability on WhatsApp starts, users will be able to send messages with many types of attachments. Users will see a new “third party chat” section on the top of their chat list that will give them information about the messages coming from users on other platforms and will keep them away from the protected chat by E2EE Encripation of WhatsApp.
To send messages to WhatsApp users, other chat platforms can encryp and send the message using the open source signal protocol. Meta -owned chat platforms can be connected to sending and getting messages. Brover said that WhatsApp is documenting its client-server protocol which will allow the other chat service directly connect its client with WhatsApp server and send messages to users on all platforms.
If companies do not want to follow this process, then they have to show that their encryption protocol matches the security standard of WhatsApp or uses low secure “proxy” that communicates with their service. According to the report, many popular messaging platforms have not confirmed whether they have partnered with WhatsApp to add support for third party chat.
The report said that general SMS messages will not support the third party chat feature. Let us tell you that calling and group chat on a separate chat platform from normal chat will not be available this year. Brover also said that the features on WhatsApp chat will be prepared at a different speed in the third party chat match. To prevent spam and scam, users will also have to choose the option to chat from third party platforms.
