According to the WhatsApp feature tracker Wabetainfo, the messaging app is designing the username feature, so that WhatsApp users can search the username and search other people on the app. Like the facility of searching username on Telegram, this new WhatsApp update can also allow users to chat with unknown people without sharing their phone number.
WABETAINFO’s report states that this feature will roll out on WhatsApp version 2.23.25.19 update through Google Play Games Beta program. It also includes a screenshot of the app, where the search bar can be seen which allows users to search through name, username or number. This feature will make communication more private on WhatsApp as users will not need to share their number to start a new chat on the app. Users can also choose the option to set a unique username, change it or remove it completely.
Users will get the facility to search using users as an update to come. No other information about this feature or its release is currently available. Last month, information was received, WhatsApp channel was working on the username which will allow the channel subscribers to enter the username to open the channel. In October, the app was also seen working on a new username picker on WhatsApp beta for iOS 2.23.20.71. According to the report, setting up a unique username, which will be with alphabet, number and some special characters.
WhatsApp is working on features that will make privacy better on the messaging app. Recently, the company launched a new secret code feature for locked chat, allowing users to hide their personal conversation behind a code. The lock chat already protects by using the phone pin or passcode or scanning the face or fingerprint of the users.
