WABetaInfo, a website that monitors WhatsApp features, has reported in its report that WhatsApp is soon going to introduce reverse image search feature on its web platform, the purpose of which is to help users identify fake photos and deal with misinformation. It is reported that the messaging platform’s new feature will help in quickly uploading images to Google and verifying their authenticity directly from the app. The feature is currently available in beta testing of the app for Android and will soon be available on WhatsApp Web as well.
The report further suggests that the reverse image search function will allow users to upload a photo to Google to verify the image. In such a situation, users can find out whether the picture present in the information they received is real or fake.
In recent times, WhatsApp along with other social media platforms is being used as a weapon to circulate fake pictures or messages. In such a situation, this feature can prove to be helpful to some extent in controlling it. However, here we have to keep in mind that the feature will not automatically perform reverse image search, rather the user will have to use it himself.
The publication says that this feature will be accessible through the overflow menu, which will be activated by tapping the three-dot button present in the image viewing interface. After selecting this option, Google reverse image search process will automatically search the reverse image.
Apart from this, let us tell you that WhatsApp support is going to stop for many smartphones from January 1, 2025. WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has said that from the new year, WhatsApp will not work on those Android devices which run on KitKat OS or older versions. WhatsApp takes such steps every year so that the security and functionality of the app continues to work better with new technologies. It is worth noting here that Android KitKat was launched in the year 2013. This means that WhatsApp support is going to stop in very old smartphones. In common devices it will continue to work as before.
