Whatsapp banned more than 26 lakh accounts in India

Messaging service WhatsApp has banned about 26.85 lakh accounts in India in September. Out of these, 8.72 lakhs have been banned by the company before receiving complaints from users. The number of accounts blocked by WhatsApp is about 15 percent more than in August.

META’s unit WhatsApp, which runs social media site Facebook, banned 23.28 lakh accounts in August. WhatsApp said in its user safety report for the month of September, “About 26,85,000 WhatsApp accounts have been banned between 1 and 30 September. Of these, about 8,72,000 of these accounts have been banned before receiving any report from users.”

In the stringent IT rules implemented last year, it has been made mandatory for large digital platforms to publish the Compliance Report every month. The Central Government is amending IT rules to make it legally accountable to ban social media platforms such as Twitter and prevent wrong information. The government has made it clear that these platforms operating in the country will have to take care of the constitutional authorities of users along with following the laws of the country.

The new rules provide a provision to create a appellate committee, which can cancel the decisions of large tech companies on requests associated with removal or blocking content. Social media companies have been accused of negligence about content or not resolving complaints soon. IT State Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that changes in IT rules will be able to settle complaints about content on social media companies soon. He said that due to the negligent attitude of social media platforms about such complaints, it was necessary to change these rules. He said that such an attitude cannot be accepted. Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, among the big electric car companies, completed the deal to buy Twitter for about $ 44 billion last week. With this, Musk has become the owner of one of the social media apps that have a big impact worldwide.
