Media reports quoted the White House as saying that the proposed Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC) aim is to help space operations and increase the efficiency. White House has given NASA a deadline till 2026 to complete this work.
Aarti Prabhakar, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, says that a unique time zone is necessary for economic development and international cooperation regarding scientific discovery.
Significantly, gravity on the moon is less than the earth. Because of this, the time there grows about 58.7 microsicand rapidly. The White House also says that to ensure safe navigation in the Space Missions of Future, it is necessary to have the correct definition of time inside the Moon’s orbit. That is why NASA has been given a big responsibility.
The US, Russia and China have so far been the majority of the countries sending missions on the moon, but last year India created history by landing the Chandrayaan-3 mission on the southern pole of the moon. This year, America has become the first country in the world, where a private company’s lander has landed on the moon. In the coming years, many more countries and companies are planning to send missions to the moon. In such a situation, the presence of Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC) will help the space missions.
