The same week, Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced an inquiry into the case of data leaking of more than 5.4 crore users of Twitter at the end of last month. According to a media report, in the current case of data leaks, the hacker has stolen the data on some high profile people as well as the US space agency NASA and the World Health Organization (WHO). The hacker wrote in its post, “If you are reading this, then you already have a risk of GDPR for more than 5.4 crore users’ data leaking. Think about the penalty for data leaking of 40 million users.”
The hacker says that he is ready to deal with a middleman. He has offered to sell this data. Experts say that the reason for the leak of Twitter data may cause any deficiency in API. The scope of investigation is being extended by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the US on Twitter’s privacy and data security methods. Since takingover to Musk’s company, there has been an apprehension that Twitter may fail to follow an agreement with the American regulator last year in which the company agreed to improve its privacy -related systems. Along with this, the company had to pay $ 15 million.
The FTC lawyers had interrogated two former Twitter executives about the compliance of Rules last month. Twitter was alleged to have used private information like phone numbers for advertising, while users were told that this information would be used for security causes.
