HYDERABAD: Tollywood senior actor U Krishnam Raju passed away on Sunday morning. He was under treatment in AIG hospital.
Popularity known as Rebel Star, he was the paternal uncle of Bahubali fame Prabhas.
Raju (83) was last seen in Prabhas’s Pan Indian film Radhe Syam as the spiritual guru.
He began as career in Telugu films in 1966 after briefly working as journalist.
He was seen in villain roles initially but soon switched over to main protagonist roles.
‘Bhakta Kannappa’ and ‘Kataktala Rudraiah’ are his notable films. Hailing from Mogaltur of West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, he was BJP MP and had served as minister of state in AB Vajpayee government.
Raju is survived by wife and three daughters.
Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao condoled his death and praised his contribution to Tollywood as actor and as minister to the nation.
CM KCR said that the death of Krishnan Raju, who acted as a hero in many films during his 50-year career and won the hearts of moviegoers as a ‘rebel star’ with his unique acting style, is a great loss for the Telugu silver screen.
The CM said that the death of Krishnam Raju, who served the people of the country as a member of the Lok Sabha, as a Union minister and through the field of political administration, is sad.
CM KCR expressed his deepest condolences to the family members of late Krishnam Raju.

Telangana minister KT Rama Rao also condoled the death of Raju. “Saddened to learn about the demise of one of the most popular stars of Telugu Cinema, Rebel star Sri Krishnam Raju Garu.
