Sonali Phogat death case: Ministry of home affairs recommends CBI probe | Goa News – Times of India

NEW DELHI/GOA: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe has been recommended into the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat by the Union home ministry on Monday, said reports.
Phogat (43), the BJP leader from Hisar in Haryana, died in Goa on the intervening night of August 22-23.
The home ministry asked the department of personnel and training (DoPT) to get the case probed by the CBI, PTI quoted an official privy to the development as saying.

The CBI functions under the administrative control of the DoPT.
The development comes after Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah requesting a probe by the central agency.
Sonali Phogat’s family had also met Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in connection with the case and had demanded a CBI probe.
However, Sawant had said that Goa Police has done a ‘tremendously good investigation’ in the case and has also got some clues, adding, “But due to the demand of people from Haryana and also Sonali Phogat’s daughter, we have decided to write to the Union mome ministry to hand over this case to the CBI.”
