Prophet row: Nupur Sharma moves SC for protection from arrest | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Monday moved Supreme Court seeking protection from arrest in cases filed over her comments on Prophet Mohammed.
Nupur Sharma is facing nine FIRs for her alleged blasphemous statement against the Prophet.
The former BJP spokesperson moved the SC saying she and her family members are constantly receiving rape and death threats after the apex court’s strong criticism against her comments.
In her petition, she pleaded for clubbing the FIRs at Delhi.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court unleashed a barrage of critical observations serrating Nupur Sharma and accused her of igniting the country and damaging the social fabric with her allegedly comments against the Prophet.
On her comments during a TV debate, the bench had said, “The way she has ignited the whole country… Still she has the cheek and courage to come to this court to ask for relief instead of approaching the respective high courts and trial courts. This lady is single-handedly responsible for setting fire across the country.”
