This draws our attention towards understanding the signs of liver disease and the importance of understanding these signs in terms of early diagnosis and medical treatment.

What are the early signs of liver disease?
These are the subtle indications of a possible liver disease which are often overlooked until the disease reaches a later stage: yellowish skin and eyes, pain and swelling in the abdomen, swelling in legs and ankles, itchy skin, dark colored urine, pale colored stool, extreme fatigue, nausea, vomiting, feeling sick, loss of appetite, and listless.

A very common sign of liver disease is the tendency to bruise very easily.

These are the signs, which are very mild in nature in the initial stage of the disease.

It is important to not ignore if these signs persist for more days. Consult a doctor and get tested immediately.

Risk factors

There are several risk factors associated with liver diseases like infection, immune system issues, cancers, genetics, alcohol abuse, drug overdose, and fat build up.

Cirrhosis and Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease are increasingly seen in our country.

Due to a reverse immune system, one can get autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis.

Viral hepatitis is another common type of liver disease which is when one contracts the virus through food or contact and the resultant infection causes inflammation in the liver.

Rate of prevalent of liver disease in India

As per a research study, incidences of liver disease in India contributed to 18.3% of the two million global liver disease–related deaths in 2015. “Contribution of cirrhosis and its complications, collectively chronic liver diseases (CLDs), as causes of mortality in India have been increasing progressively since 1980, compared with China, the other country in Asia with a large population, where it remains stationary and is even showing downward trends,” the study adds.
