According to the latest report on behalf of Cyber Security Research firm Development Micro, an investigation on 50 different Android device models by the firm has revealed that 8.9 million (89 lakh) is infected with Android devices malicious software.
Another cyber security firm, Sophos, has known the known application as guerrilla. The firm examined the guerrilla app closely and found that it was involved in the infrastructure of 15 different apps in the Google Play Games Pack. Certainly it is worrying, as the virus can steal the data of the device very comfortably.
This virus pushes a “update notification” on the phone, which is actually a way to enter that application. After this, it keeps downloading harmful software on the pretext of update in the user’s phone. The downloaded software affects many parts including the phone’s battery life and performance.
The report states that advertisements received by users in phone infected with guerrilla virus are often useless and can be classified as porn content. The virus has currently affected the smartphones present in the US, Mexico, Indonesia, Thailand and Russia.
At present, the report of both firms has not mentioned the name of those mobile phone brands or applications, which contain the guerrilla application.
