‘Side Road View’ feature of Google Maps returns to India, launched in these 10 cities

The Google Side Road View feature at Google Maps has finally been launched after being deprived of full scale launch permission in India in 2016. Street view feature allows users to look and navigate the panoramic photographs of cities in the cities. In the press meet in New Delhi, the company announced that it is bringing a street view in India in collaboration with ZEESYS and Tech Mahindra. With millions of 360-degree panoramic photos, this feature will be available to 10 Indian cities, which will initially cover 150,000 km of roads. Google aims to expand this feature in 50 cities by the end of this year. Also, as part of the initiative, Tech Mahindra will deploy SUVs equipped with cameras for crowded places. The government rejected the proposal for the Rollout of Google Street View in the country, citing security reasons in 2016.

Google launched its street view service in 10 cities of India in partnership with Tech Mahindra and Zenesys. The street view feature on Google Maps is covering 150,000 km of roads in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Vadodara, Ahmednagar and Amritsar. Tech giants are bringing this feature to 50 Indian cities by the end of the year.

The data collection will be done by local partners. For this, the company will provide Street View API for local developers. India is the first country where the street view is mainly enabled by the partners. It is being introduced on the basis of the new National Geosal Policy, which was introduced in February 2021. This policy allows domestic companies to collect data and modern mapping technology.

The street view feature can be accessed by zooming the road in any city on Google Maps and tapping that area. It will show local cafes, artificial centers etc. It is being said that it also provides surface temperature data with the help of Google Earth engine.

Google is not using any of its street view vehicles for this work. Instead, the company in India will use the Mahindra Scorpio model of the previous generation.

Google’s Data Operations Product Manager Stafford Markward says that recently introduced in Google I/O, Google Side Road View Digital Camera can also come to India (if it is ready by that time). He said, “We would like to bring immersive views for India as well, but we (yet) have not decided anything. Because it uses 3D data and aerial view, we must probably have to do a similar partnership to bring it to India.”

Google also announced its cooperation with local authorities to reduce road safety measures and traffic congestion. To promote safe driving, Google Maps will display the speed limit data shared by traffic authorities, which will begin from Bengaluru and Chandigarh. In collaboration with Bengaluru Traffic Police, Google is working towards optimizing the traffic light time, which aims to reduce waiting time, road crowd and carbon emissions at intersections. The company will also expand it in Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Google is partnership with traffic authorities and agangators in eight cities – Delhi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Bangalore and Agra to provide information about road closure and incidents.

In addition, the company is taking new initiatives with domestic institutions with the goal of reducing its users’ carbon footprints. The company recently operated the Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE), which uses public transport activity data to help cities and local governments measure emissions.

The Google is also associated with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to give information about air quality. On Google Maps app Layers> Breeze Detail These information can be accessed by going on.
