LPV acts like a high-tech vacuum cleaner. It uses pressure gas to move the moon’s soil. On doing this, a small tornado is formed, from which the earthen samples reach the container. According to NDTV report, this system has been connected to a lander sent to the moon, which will help the samples to collect automatically and the samples will also be brought to the earth.
Will not have to dig on the moon-moon
If the LPV was used, in future scientists will not have to dig there to collect samples from the moon or Mars. Dennis Harris, who manages LPV at NASA’s Marshal Space Flight Center, said that this technology neither digging, nor is there a mess to wear a machine or change a part. It acts like a vacuum cleaner.
Scientists are expected to use this technology can prove to be helpful in searching water, helium and other minerals on other planets.
Where will LPV use first
LPV is applied to Blue Ghost Lander. Its sampling head will emit pressure gas, which will stir the soil of the moon and produce a small tornado of dust. When there is a stir, particles up to one centimeter size will fly and samples will be deposited in the container. Lunar Planetvac is included in 10 payloads that are installed in the Blue Ghost Lander.
