The trial of E-Rupay was started about two years ago. This trial is now in advance phase. RBI deputy governor T Rabi Sankar told Bloomberg that it could be some time to start for the general use of India’s digital currency. He said, “We will not hurry about it. It will be launched after the situation is clear about its result or effect. No special deadline has been kept for this.” To make Indian currency international, RBI is watching it as a through one.
In some other countries also measures are being taken to include CBDC in the financial system. Its purpose is to reduce the dependence on US dollar for international payments. Rabi Sankar said that the arrangements of Payments related to CBDC are being done with Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Recently, RBI Governor, Shaktikanta Das had reported that about 50 lakh users are involved in the retail trial of e-Rupay. Das had said that the program of e-Rupaye would be important to add it to the financial system. With this, farmers will also be able to get loans easily. A few months ago, Dubai’s Crypto Exchange Bybit announced an integration of E-Rupaye its Peer-to-Pier (P2P) transaction service. Some UPI apps are also planning to join the Digital rupee trial under the supervision of RBI.
He had told, “Farmers who have been cultivated by renting land are difficult to take loans for the materials used in farming as they do not have the ownership of land to deposit the banks. Use of e-Rupaye will make it easier to farmers to take loans related to farming. This will not require the documents of their land to determine the identity of the farmer.”
