Earlier, scientists had believed that infectious diseases would have played an important role in the elimination of Nendarthal. But the researchers had no strong evidence for this. Because it was a very difficult task to remove ancient DNA and keep it in a sequence. Now a new study has been done under the leadership of molecular biologist Marcello Brones. The DNA samples of Nendarthal’s skeletons found in the Chagyrskaya cave of Russia have been analyzed.
After this, the team of Brions found that some pieces have been found in the bones that match the three viruses of the modern era. These include adenovirus (common cold), herpes virus (cold sore), and papillomavirus (genital warts).
However, this discovery is very early right now. The pieces of viruses that have been found in them suggests that they may have old viruses. Research also states that what the effect of these virus would have been on Neanderthals, it cannot be said right now. But this discovery has opened the doors of further investigation in this regard. At the same time, this discovery weakens all the theories who have been saying that the end of Niendarthal must have been due to the changes of the environment or the struggle of human beings.
Researchers also admit that many factors would have been involved in the extinction of Neanderthal. The forward study about these viruses and other responsible factors discovered in bones will take us closer to the truth that belongs to a very big event in the history of human species.
