According to Spacedotcom report, the language of the Rigveda is mostly symbolic and allegorical. This makes it difficult to understand which things are myths and which historical. However, two scientists tried to understand the Rigveda. These include Mayank Wahia of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai and Mitsuru Soma of Japan’s National Astronomical Observatory. Both feel that they have received signs of ancient solar eclipse in the Rigveda.
Scientists have reported their conclusion at the Journal of Astronomical History and Heritage. According to the report, the Rigveda was compiled to 1500 BC. Most of the information written in it is contemporary i.e. while writing to Vedas. However, historical events are also mentioned in the Rigveda. Scientists have received information about solar eclipse from one such description.
Scientists have told about two possible dates of solar eclipse after reading the Rigveda. The first is-
October 22, 4202 BC and 19 October, 3811 BC. Both these dates have become the oldest dates mentioning the solar eclipse. Earlier, scientists had found an earthen lease of excavation in Syria. It has a matter of solar eclipse in 1375 BC and 1223 BC. Carving on a rock in Ireland gives a reference of 3340 BC. Now the Rigveda has presented old dates than that. If those years of BC are added from the present time, then the 6 thousand year old solar eclipse has been mentioned in the Rigveda.
