Ola denies charging differential pricing for iPhone, Android Customers in Republic of India, Uber, Google, Apple

OLA, which provides cab service through the app, has refused to decide the price on the basis of the user’s smartphone. Earlier, Uber also denied the allegation of separate pricing for Apple and Android smartphones. Last week, these two cab companies were sent notices to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for allegations of separate prices on the basis of smartphones.

Ola Shopper spokesman said, “We have a similar pricing structure for all customers and we do not take a different price of rides based on the operating system of the smartphone’s smartphone.” He told that we have made it clear to CCPA. Ola consumer will work with CCPA to remove any misunderstanding about this. Apple and Google have not answered the request for remarks sent by Reuters about this.

Earlier, Uber also refused to decide the pricing based on users’ smartphones. On social media, many users had complained about collecting a separate price based on Apple and Android smartphones of Ola and Uber. After this, CCPA had sent notice to these two companies regarding the difference in pricing. Consumer Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi had informed these companies about the notice of CCPA in a post on social media platform X. Joshi had said that he would also instruct to investigate allegations of separate pricing in other segments like food delivery and online ticketing from CCPA.

India’s big markets include India. Recently, Joshi said that discrimination in pricing is a major violation of consumers’ rights. In October last year, CCPA gave Ola Electrical involved in large electric two-wheeler companies to Ola Electrical given a show cause notice regarding alleged violations of consumers’ rights, misleading advertisements and unfair business methods. The CCPA had initially investigated a large number of complaints against Ola Electric. It contained violations of customers’ rights, misleading advertisements and deficiencies in service. After this, the Director General of Investigation of CCPA was given the responsibility of investigating the matter.
