Watching content on Netflix is now going to become more expensive for users in many markets including the US. Netflix has increased its subscription prices in some select markets. These include markets like United States, Argentina, Canada and Portugal. The company’s premium membership in America will now be available for $25 (approximately Rs 2163). It has increased by $2. At the same time, the standard plan will be available for 18 dollars (approximately Rs 1557).
The company has cited investment in content as the reason for increasing the price. Netflix says it is focusing on maintaining and enhancing programming quality. The company added 1.9 crore new subscribers by the end of the 2024 festival season. The company is now said to have more than 30 crore subscribers. The total number of subscribers added last year was 4.1 crore.
However, there is a large number of Netflix users who watch content with advertisements. The company has kept the prices low for advertised plans. According to a recent report, about 70 million viewers of Netflix watch shows with advertising every month. In the year 2024, this number had almost doubled by November compared to May. In countries where Netflix’s ad-supported plan is available, more than 50 percent of new subscribers are choosing it. This type of plan is available in 12 countries. The company had added advertising about two years ago as the number of customers declined.
