Apple is preparing to make its wireless earbuds airpods more advanced. According to a report, the company is working on adding camera control, sleep detection, new head gestures and AI features to Airpods. The glimpse of these new updates can be seen in WWDC 2025 on 9 June, although some features may be 2026 or after rollouts.

According to the report of 9to5MAC, Apple is working on a feature that users will be able to control iPhone or iPad camera through airpods. For example, user can click the photo by tapping the stem or switch the camera modes. This feature can come with real time integration between the camera app and airpods of the iPhone.

The report further states that there may be another smart feature in sleep detection airpods. Through this, Airpods will be able to detect the user’s gold state and automatically poses audio playback. It has also been said that this feature can also be linked to Apple Guard and Condition Apps so that the user’s sleep quality track is better.

Apple is also allegedly working on new gesture support in AirPods. These may include options such as raising the head by turning their heads. In addition, a new “studio quality” voice isolation mode is also being tested, which will better reduce background noise during calling and recording.

An old report also revealed that Apple is doing research on camera and airpods with visual intelligence, which can recognize the surrounding things and give a visual feedback to the user. These features can work together with products like Siri and Apple Perceptible Professional.

At present, Apple has not given any official statement on these reports. But if these features are reflected in WWDC, then they can remove airpods from a simple audio device and convert into a smart health and control interface.
