What is Polaris Don Mission
Polaris Don Mission was launched on 10 September after several months of delay. Its purpose was to complete a private commercial spacewalk in space. Four people attended the mission. Its fanding and command is with Jarad Isaacman. He is a billionaire businessman. Pilot’s responsibility was played by Lieutenant Colonel Scott Potat. Sara Gillis and Anna Menon joined as Mission Specialists, who are Operations Engineers in Spacex.
Eva vs Seva
EVA i.e. extra -heeicular activity means that an astronaut released its spacraft in the space. He came out completely out of him and returned to the spacraft after completing his work. During this time he walks in the space outside the speccraft. During EVA, work such as maintenance of satellite is commonly completed.
In comparison, the astronaut in ‘Stand-up Extravicular Activity’ i.e. SEVA does not completely get out of the spacraft. Some part of his body is attached to the spacecraft. This is what happened in the Polaris Don Mission. Jred Isaqman and Sara Gillis did not leave the spacraft completely.
The report of Spacedotcom also reported that both astronauts did not walk outside the spacecraft during the private commercial spacewalk. He was in a stand up position. Interestingly, in the history of space, this 20th stand-up was Extravicular Activity (SEVA). The difference between EVA and SEVA first surfaced in 1966, when Gemini Spacecraft reached space. NASA’s Astronaut Michael Collins took some pictures by taking out his body from the spacecraft.
Once again on Thursday, SEVA was repeated. During this time, Isaqman and Gillis never completely left the Dragon Capsul. He kept at least some part of his body all the time all the time. Even before this mission, SEVA was done in the year 2008. Two Chinese Estronots came out of the spacraft to wave their country’s national flags. However, the Seva of the Polaris Don Mission lasted for about 1 hour and 46 minutes.
