IRCTC’s Tatkal ticket system is going to have a big change soon. The aim of these new rules being implemented from 1 July 2025 is to curb the arbitrariness of bots and ticket agents and provide more transparent service to common passengers. Indian Railways is now making Tatkal booking Aadhaar Linked and OTP Verified Process. That is, before booking tickets, a definite verification of your identity will be necessary. Initially, these changes will only apply to Tatkal booking, but it may be included in the regular booking system in the coming time.
What changes will happen?
- From July 1, only those people will be able to book Tatkal tickets whose IRCTC account will be linked to Aadhaar. That is, if your investigation is not Aadhaar-verified, then Tatkal will not be able to book
- All Tatkal booking from July 15 – online, counter or agent, will be completed by OTP verification. OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar linked mobile number.
- As soon as the reserving starts, for the first 30 minutes (10 to 10:30 am for AC class, 11-11:30 am for non-AC) only individual, Aadhaar-verified users will be able to book online, agents will be blocked at this time.
- Apart from all this, IRCTC is going to deploy AI and anti-boat technology to stop the scammer.
What will be the benefit of these changes?
- The possibility of getting the ticket first will increase the chances of getting the ticket first as agents and bots will be reserved instead of invoices.
- Black marketing and frauds will be low, as the OTP + AI system will immediately catch fake account and bot booking.
- The ticketing system will become more reliable, transparent and user-friendly, especially for last-minute travelers.
What should users do?
- Aadhaar should be linked to IRCTC account. This is necessary for booking from July 1.
- OTP verification will be necessary from July 15, so make sure that your mobile number is linked correctly.
- Look at the time of TATKAL Booking, which is 10 am for AC and 11 am for Non-A, first 30 minutes agent will be banned.
