About three years ago, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) found the policy related to Google’s Play Games Gather wrong in an investigation. Because of this the company was fined. CCI found Google guilty of misusing its dominance in Android mobile device ecosystem and online search market.
In this case, the CCI order was asked to change the way of marketing Android from the company. However, the company said that making major changes in Android mobile platforms would be difficult. About 97 percent of smartphones in India run on Android and it is a big market for Google. The CCI had directed the company that it should not impose any condition on the app developers which are unfair or discriminated against. No reason for this has been given as to why the company is taking 11-26 percent commission even after using the user’s third-party processing service.
Google had changed the way of billing for app developers. The company had said that if a user pays through an alternative billing system, then the service fee of Google Play Games will be reduced by four percent. With this, even if Google’s service is not used, the app developers will be forced to pay the commission to the company. In this regard, the policy think tank AdIF, a policy think tank related to digital startups, said that Google is completely violating the CCI order. A similar investigation has been made against Apple, which makes popular smartphones like iPhone. It is allegedly related to misuse of the dominated situation in the company’s apps market. Apple was alleged to have compelled the developers to use his properite in-app purchasing system due to its strong position in the apps market. For this, up to 30 percent fees were being charged from developers.
