According to the report, when the phone was linked to a monitor with a USB-C, the interface-like interface on the phone became active. PIN apps, recent apps, app drawers and basic navigation buttons were present in the taskbar. Users can simultaneously run several apps in free-flotting windows and can also be rested by drag-drop.
Another interesting aspect of this feature is, multi-display control. Users can move a cursor between phone and external displays. Also, a new external display management UI has been seen in Android 16, where the position of the display can be customized, such as mirrors or using in extending mode.
This report further stated that Google is currently testing this feature in Android 16 beta. There is no confirmation of whether it will come in the stable version or not, but it is believed that it can be fully rolled out in Android 17.
This step of Google can be special for those users who want more productivity than their phones, without resorting to laptops or tablets. It remains to be seen when and in which devices this feature rolls out, but it is certain that the desktop method of Android 16 can compete with Samsung’s Dex.
