Google opposed roll out of ai primarily based Ask Pictures Quality Within The Pictures

Google has stopped the rollout of the Ask Pictures feature introduced in its Google pictures. According to Google Pictures Product Manager, it was stopped after users complained about the performance at slow speed and bad users experience.

Product Manager of Google Pictures Jamie Espinol confirmed the feature of this feature due to latency, quality and users experctions. Aspinol wrote in response to users criticism about the AI based search device that Ask Pictures is not the place where it should be. This feature uses the Gemini AI model of Google to search their photo library with general language questions to users. It is being launched for a limited number of users from October 2024. Users can ask questions like show Me Best Photo from Each National Park I have visited or What Themes Have We Head for Birthday Party.

Initially, users reported a lot of problems. This feature often missed the relevant photo, used to walk very slow and provide a bad experience in the normal keyword search of Google Pictures. Some users reported that AI search is completely spoiling Google Pictures. Aspinol said the rollout was stopped after very few users, while Google is checking these issues. The company hopes that a better version will be introduced in about two weeks that will bring back the search speed.

Google first announced Ask Pictures at its I/O developer conference in May 2024. It was introduced as an important upgrade that would make it easy to search for special memories. This feature was designed to understand the contact and subject in the photo using Gemini’s multimodal capacity, even to read the text inside the photo. This is not the first time Google has stopped one of its AI features. The company had stopped the AI overview in the search after the first viral mistakes and prevented Gemini’s image generation tool due to historical flaws. Users who are currently sees ask pictures, they can disable it through the app setting inside Gemini features in Google Pictures.
