After facing defeat in the appeal against the CCI’s order, Google said that it would change its Android business model and would not pressurize the makers to pre-install Google apps like YouTube or Chrome. However, in a case filed last week in an appeal tribunal, EPIC VIDEO Games said that Google has not fully followed the CCI’s instructions. Google was asked to host the third-party app stores on the Play Store and allow apps without using the Play Store.
EPIC VIDEO GAMES, which creates popular video game Fortnite, runs its app store, which is offered for downloading games and other apps. The director of the firm, Bakari Middleton told Reuters in a statement, “We want to join the court with Indian developers in support of CCI’s order. In this order, Google was asked to allow competitive third-party app stores.” Earlier, EPIC VIDEO Games have campaigned against Apple and Google for taking more commissions for the app store.
The CCI has not answered the question sent about this. Google had expressed concern over the order of CCI as it is more strict than the decision given by the European Commission against Android four years ago. About 97 percent of the 60 million smartphones in the country run on Android. This figure is about 75 percent for about 55 crore smartphones in Europe. The CCI imposed a fine of about $ 16.1 million in October last year to misuse its dominance in Android market on Alphabet.
