First Made-In-Republic of India Chip Is Also Introduced This Era, Govt Offers Knowledge

The demand for semiconductors has increased rapidly in the last few years. The central government had announced incentives for the manufacturing of semiconductors in India. Electronics and Information Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday that the first Made in India semiconductor could be introduced this year.

In the last financial year, the import of semiconductors in the country increased by about 18.5 percent to about Rs 1.71 lakh crore. Semiconductors are used in many industries like automobiles and smartphones. “We can bring the first Made in India semiconductor chip this year,” Vaishnav told NDTV on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. He said that a lot of progress has been made on this front since the launch of the Semiconductor Mission about three years ago. Vaishnav, who chairs the country’s AI mission, said that the government is working on the next phase of the AI mission. This includes designing indigenous AI models and AI chips in the country. He said that the government aims to implement the right regulatory framework for Artificial Intelligence. In this, a balance will be created between innovation and regulation.

The government has taken measures to increase the manufacturing of semiconductors. This will reduce dependence on imports. Some big business groups of the country have partnered with foreign companies to increase the manufacturing of semiconductors. Recently Tata Crew had a tie-up with American semiconductor manufacturer Analog Units. Tata Electronics, the semiconductor company of Tata Group, plans to invest $ 11 billion to build a laboratory in Dholera, Gujarat. Adani Group has also tied up with Israel’s Tower Semiconductor to set up a semiconductor plant in Maharashtra. About 10 billion dollars will be invested in this project.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to make the country a major power in semiconductors. There may be a major change in the semiconductor segment due to tension between America and China. India, Singapore and Malaysia are likely to benefit from this. Big companies like AMD and Nvidia have also set up research and design centers in the country. The country’s semiconductor market is estimated to reach approximately $63 billion by 2026.
