Meta has stated in a blog post that since Messenger 2016, users have been offering the option to end end-to-end encryption enable (). With the new update, private chats and calls on Meta Messenger have been transformed into end-to-end encrypted.
Benefits of end-to-end encryption
The messaging platform already offers several privacy and security features including delivery control. This allows users to choose who can send them the message as well as the app lock. Apart from this, security features like blocks and messages request are also available. However, a default end-to-end encryption offers additional layers for safety of messages and call content shared with users’ friends and family. These messages and call users remain safe from getting out of the device to the receiver’s device. This means that no one, including Meta, will not be able to see what has been sent or what has been said. End-to-end encryption will provide users more secure chat in Messenger.
Apart from end to end encryption, these new features have also been introduced:
Edit a message: This feature will allow users to edit the message within 15 minutes.
Disciphering Message: The messages that disappear on the messenger will now remain till 24 hours after being sent. Users will also be notified if the dispensary messages are there.
Reed Receipt Control: Messenger’s new reed recept control will allow users to decide whether they want other people to see them when their messages are read.
Photo and video upgrade: META claims that users share more than 1.3 billion photos and videos on Messenger daily. The company is now making access to photos and videos easier, is advanced to photo quality, adding attractive layouts and providing more control, so that users can answer or reply to any photos or videos in storage.
