Swara Bhasker slams trolls blaming Karan Johar for Sushant Singh Rajput’s death; says dislike for the director doesn’t make him a ‘murderer’ – Times of India

Actress Swara Bhasker, who is unafraid to speak her mind, made waves online when she spoke up about the ongoing boycott trend in Bollywood. This time around, the actress shared her thoughts about the hate and social media trolling aimed at director Karan Johar.

In her recent interview, Swara noted that since the shocking demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, a certain section of people posing as the late actor’s ‘fans’, have been attacking the director. While stating that criticising his films and slamming him for promoting ‘nepotism’ was one thing, calling the director a ‘murderer’ was downright unfair.

“You can say a lot of things about Karan Johar, you can say his films are obnoxious or that you have issues with him for promoting nepotism in the industry, but your dislike and issue with him doesn’t mean that he is a murderer,” the actress told Connect FM Canada.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai home in June 2020. While at first it was reported that the actor died by hanging, the case was later taken up by central agencies including the ED, NCB and CBI. Two years on, his death case still remains unsolved.

Swara also went on to state that the constant trolling in the past months has created an ‘atmosphere of fear’. According to the actress, there is a belief in the industry, to avoid engaging in or commenting on a controversy.

Pointing out how hate campaigns against Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and the role it may have played in the box office numbers, she said that the film industry was ‘under attack’ by social media trends that were all ‘paid for’.

Swara was last seen in ‘Jahaan Chaar Yaar’ that release on September 16. The film also starred Pooja Chopra, Meher Vij and Shikha Talsania.
