India has allegedly approved to import laptops, tablets and personal computers (PC) to some other brands including Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung, Dell. However, the government has created a management system, in which the shipment will be monitored. The total number of licensed companies is stated to be 110.

Reuters quoted two government sources as saying that the Government of India has approved a total of 110 companies to import laptops, tablets and PC. The government has prepared a management system, under which imports will be monitored. This new “import management system” has come into effect from Wednesday. Some of these companies are Dell, Xiaomi, IBM, Asus, Lenovo, HP, Apple, Samsung and Acer.

India had withdrawn the previous plan to implement the licensing system after criticism of industry and the United States. Companies will have to register import quantity and price on a portal with the valid authority by September 2024.
