Apple, Samsung, HP Halt PC Imports in Bharat Next Series from Govt

Apple, Samsung and HP, one of the big companies making devices, have stopped the import of laptops and tablets in India. The central government on Thursday banned the import of these devices without license. Its purpose is to increase the local manufacturing of electronics.

However, this decision of the government has shocked the companies making personal computers, laptops and tablets. Most of these companies import these devices for sale in the country. Bloomberg report quoted sources who are aware of the case as saying that these companies are talking with the government on getting licenses for the import of these devices. The festival season is very important for these. Questions sent to Apple, Samsung and HP were not answered about this.

This can increase difficulties for companies like Apple and Samsung. These companies are already struggling with more inventory in the international market and slowing growth. This decision may have a major impact on the import of laptops and personal computers from China. The import of electronics during April to June in the country was about $ 19.7 billion. It included laptops, personal computers and tablets. In this regard, the notice issued by the government stated, “Import permission will be on a valid license for limited imports.” Electronics holds 7 to 10 percent in the total merchandise import of the country.

“This decision aims to increase manufacturing in the country,” says Ali Akhtar Jafri, former Director General of MAIT, an organization associated with the electronics industry. Through the production-linked incentive, the government is trying to increase local manufacturing in more than two dozen sectors including electronics. The government has extended the deadline to apply for a $ two billion manufacturing incentive scheme with the aim of attracting large investments in IT Hardware Manufacturing. This scheme is important to make the country a big strength in the global electronics supply chain. The government aims to increase the annual production of electronics by 2026 to $ 300 billion. Large companies selling laptops in the country include Apple, Dell, Lenovo and HP, Acer, Samsung and LG. A large number of laptops are imported from countries like China.
