Whatsapp KBC RIP-off?
People from many parts of the country have told that they have received a message on WhatsApp, which claims that they have won Rs 25 lakh through lottery by a show named Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). This scam, which is going viral in the name of KBC Scam, comes with many information, in which you try to convince you that you have won 25 lakh rupees in the lottery system.
Because the zodiac is so big, an unknown person can get caught in the trap of fraudsters and lose his precious money. Apart from the large amount given in the scam messages, another reason for such messages coming under the guise can be to get a message on the private number. People believe that because the message has come on their personal number, it should be true.
The KBC scam message has pictures of many big personalities including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and Amitabh Bachchan. Because pictures of these personalities are going viral on internet and advertisements, people are more likely to believe in that text. In this, numbers have also been given in the name of the bank manager. These numbers can be of scammers. Certainly, money can be cheated by contacting these numbers.
The blog post by the Cybercrime Unit of Delhi Police states that when contacting the given number to claim the potential victim, the scammers demands lottery processing as well as a fixed amount for GST. “Once the victim deposits that money, they start asking for some more money. After some time, they start telling the victim that the lottery amount has been increased to Rs 45 lakh and then Rs 75 lakh, and similarly the work is done to keep the victim busy and interested.”
How you can save your self from whatsapp kbc rip-off?
Whatsapp scam is not new because there have been many such cases before people have lost money. Because the messages on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted, scammers find it difficult to detect. The easiest and best way to not lose money is to avoid such money or lottery messages.
Sometimes scammers will make you realize that you are not being cheated, but do not fall into this trap. If you have moved forward, understand their words or antics closely. See that you are not asking for your bank account information, debit or credit card information, email address, house address and private information like UPI ID etc.
