EU’s Industry Chief Thierry Breton gave this warning during a meeting on a video call with Musk. People who know about this meeting said that Breton has asked Musk to follow the rules. These include not restoring the banned users unilaterally and giving consent to the independent audit of Twitter next year. Twitter and EU have not answered the questions sent by Reuters in this regard. Earlier, Breton had requested Musk to follow EU’s rules against Hate Speech and incorrect information.
The European Commission was assured by Musk that Twitter would follow tight European rules. Earlier this week, Musk accused Apple of threatening to block Twitter from the app store. Musk said that Apple has stopped advertising on Twitter and pressure is being poured for content moderation.
Apple has not confirmed this. However, it is normal for the company to do so as it applies its rules and before that apps like GAB and Parler have been removed from the app store due to violation of rules. However, Parler was later restored after updating content and moderation methods. Musk tweeted, “Apple has stopped most advertisements on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?” He later targeted the Twitter account of Apple’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Prepare Dinner in another tweet, “What’s going on there?” Musk said last week that if Twitter is removed from the app store from Apple and Google, then he can launch his smartphone.
