Whatsapp Taking Motion Over Suspicious Accounts In Republic of India, Stopped Over 47 Lakh Accounts in March

Messaging service Whatsapp has banned more than 47 lakh accounts in India last month. This is a greater number than the banned accounts in February. WhatsApp, owned by META, has followed three orders from the Grives Appellate Committee (GAC) in March.

WhatsApp had banned more than 45 lakh accounts in February. It has followed the three orders found in March from the recently created GAC. However, WhatsApp has not given much information about these orders. Its monthly user safety report contains information about the complaints received by the users and the action taken on them. Along with this, the action taken to deal with harassment on WhatsApp platform is also given. “In March, 47,15,906 WhatsApp accounts were banned in March, out of which 16,59,385 accounts were banned before receiving any report from users on 16,59,385 accounts.”

Under IT rules, large digital platforms have to publish a compliance report each month. It contains information about the complaints received by these platforms and the action taken on them. Social media firms were earlier accused of promoting hate speech, wrong information and fake news. Such fears were expressed that these platforms are banning many users along with removing the content unilaterally. The central government had started the GAC system. In this, users can file their complaints on a portal against the decisions of social media firms. The problem of unwanted or spam calls on WhatsApp may soon be solved.

A feature can be introduced in this app used around the world, so that such calls can be silent. This messaging service is based on phone numbers and a person can call another registered user despite not being saved as a contact in his address book. Wabetainfo, who tracks new features on WhatsApp, recently stated that the new beta version of WhatsApp includes codes for such features that users will be able to silence the calls from unknown numbers.
