Govt warns to forget about cries from those overseas codes for protection from virtual scams


In the last few years, scam cases have increased rapidly through mobile. In such cases, criminals pressurize them to transfer money by intimidating their victims. Usually these criminals run their network from abroad to avoid the grip of law enforcement agencies.

The Telecom Department (DOT) has advised to be vigilant from some foreign codes in a post on social media platform X. These codes include +77, +84, +85, +86 and +89. This post states that this type of calls are not made by Dot and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Suspected calls can be reported on the Sanchar Saathi portal. This helps DOT to block these phone numbers. According to a report by the Ministry of Home Affairs, in the first 10 months of this year, scammers in the country have cheated about Rs 2,140 crore.

Recently, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C) and Dot blocked at least 17,000 WhatsApp accounts of foreign hackers. Its goal is to destroy foreign criminal networks and increase the digital security of the country. In May this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs formed an inter-ministry committee to deal with the increase in organized cybercrime from countries of Southeast Asia, such as Cambodia, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar. About 45 percent of cyber financial frauds in the country is from Southeast Asia. These crimes have grown more complex and big. This causes a lot of damage to the victims. The I4C has taken several steps to destroy the infrastructure that these hackers use. I4C investigation has revealed that cyber criminals to implicate people in their nets, games, games, dating apps. Cryptocurrency and forged trading offer platforms. They often trap people on social media.

A few months ago, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported that in such scams, the fraudster offers the advisory of the investment related to the crypto and asks people to put money in fake tokons. It is lured to get more returns.
