Swiggy can now be delivered to your food package with drone soon!

Swiggy may soon start delivering food by drone. Trials have started for both its food and medical package. Final approval has been received from the Ministry of Defense (MOD), Directorate General of Aviation (DGCA) and Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) to start drone tests to deliver food to SWIGGY’s drone delivery partner ANRA (ANRA) Technologies. ANRA Technologies have received approval for the Beyond Visual Line of Site (BVLOS) operation. The ANRA started its first flight on 16 June after a long plan, air traffic control integration and equipment. For the next several weeks, the ANRA team will test BVLOS food and medical package distribution in Etah and Rupnagar districts respectively in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

In addition to partnering with Swiggy for food delivery, the integrated airspace management firm is also engaged in another similar project. For that it has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and it will focus on medical delivery.

Shilpa Dnyaneshwar, the leading program manager of Swiggy, said that through this project the company’s goal is “the best use of long distance efficiency of drone technology”. Dnyaneshwar further said, “It is natural to find out the latest methods available to ease and speed up the last mile journey and maximum benefit to our consumers.”

Anra founder and CEO Amit Ganju said that the inspiring factor for him and his team comes from knowing the fact that “our technology may soon help people with low population sector to provide food and medical packages.”

In a Test flight video, the ANRA team showed how delivery is likely. In a 3 -minute video, a drone appears to fly to a certain distance before returning to the ground, raising a small food package.

A few weeks ago, Google-backed delivery start-up Dunzo announced that it is set for drone delivery under the ‘Medicine from the Sky’ project launched by the Telangana government in collaboration with the International Financial Discussion Board. The project aims to enable emergency medical delivery that may include Covid-19 vaccines and other essential items.
Dunzo is one of the institutions that were recently allowed by the Central Government using drones (BVLOS) experimental flights.
