Billionaire Elon Musk’s electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla may start business in the country from next week. The company’s first showroom will begin on July 15 in Mumbai. For the last few years in the country, Tesla was trying to start selling its electric cars.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the company’s next showroom can be launched in the capital Delhi. Tesla’s Style Y can be sold in the country at the beginning. This electric car will be imported from Tesla’s gigafctor in Tesla in Shanghai. The price of this electric car will be more than Rs 27 lakh (without import duty). However, the price of Style Y for customers after import duty of about 21 lakh rupees and tax on this can be more than Rs 50 lakh.

In the last few years, sales of electric vehicles in the country have increased rapidly. Last month, EV sales have increased by about 28.60 percent to 1,80,238 units on a year-by-year basis. It has a large share of increase in sales of electric passenger vehicles. Electric passenger vehicle sales have been of 13,178 units in June. Electric passenger vehicles have increased to 4.4 percent in the total markets of EVS.

Tesla’s sales in major markets like the US and China are declining. In the second quarter of the current year, the company sold 3,84,122 units of EV. This is a decline of more than 13 percent on a year-on-year basis. China’s BYD and other EV makers have dent in Tesla’s market share. Tesla seems likely to be a possibility of the world’s third largest automobile market in India. Recently in the country, Tesla has also imported an electric car accessories, supercharger components, spare parts and merchandise from the US and China. Last month, the central government launched a new portal for investment and manufacturing in the country for international EV companies. It is a part of the government’s scheme announced in March last year to promote manufacturing of electric cars. However, Tesla does not plan to start manufacturing EV soon in the country.
