The company said in a blog post that the accused called the customer support and reached the custom support computer system of the Robinhood employee, pretending to be an authorized party. According to the company, after stealing information from Robinhood, the hacker also tried to get the payment from the company, after which the users were alerted about it, giving information to the police.
The breech with Robinhood took place on 3 November. The hacker acquired about 5 million e-mail addresses associated with Robinhood users. The company believes that the hacker has achieved additional account details about some of those people along with names, date of birth and zip code related to 310 users.
In the blog post, Robinhood has said that it has controlled the attack. Users’ social security numbers, bank account numbers or debit card numbers have not been excluded.
