The TOI report quoted Omdia as saying that in April 2025, the US was exported to about 2.9 million iPhones from India, while the same number from China a year ago was 3.7 million, which has now come down to only 9 lakh units. This change clearly shows that Apple is shifting its manufacturing base from China and shifting to India and this change is not just limited to production, but is affecting both global logistics and politics.
Apple is currently doing 18% of its global iPhone manufacturing from India and the company’s target is to reach 32% by the end of 2025. Foxconn, who is the main supplier of Apple, is constantly increasing its investment in India. The company has recently launched an $ 1.5 billion expansion project in India.
According to reports, Apple has planned to assembly all iPhones sold in the US by 2026 in India. Although some experts believe that it will not be easy to increase production in India rapidly, especially when it comes to quality standard and volume.
Talking about manufacturing in America, it is a very expensive and slow option for Apple. In such a situation, even though the Trump government is putting pressure, but the strategy of Apple is currently stuck about India.
