The application of Starlink for Indian GMPCS (satellite broadband) license seems to be climbing another ladder of approval. A media report states that Elon Musk’s satellite broadband provider company “theoretically” has agreed to complete India’s data localization and security standard. According to these guidelines, satellite operators need to store data at the local level and enable potential data access to intelligence agencies. These are the most important conditions to obtain a license from the Department of Telecommunications (DOT).

The Moneycontrol report quoted sources as saying that Starlink has accepted the important conditions of DOT, due to which it is now seen to be clear now. The publication has been told that Allen Musk’s company has agreed to complete the government’s data localization and security standard, after which the Starlink’s India license application is now ready to move forward.

Publication has been told that the main reason behind this, Alan Musk may have a major impact on this year’s US elections. Let us know that Allen Musk promoted Donald Trump and supported him openly this year. However, Starlink has not yet issued any official statement on completing the conditions.

As we said, important guidelines of DOT say that a satellite communication company working in India has to store all the data inside the country. In addition, it is also mandatory to share data with security agencies if needed.

Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite Services (GMPCS) license is the first step towards setting up satellite internet by obtaining a trial spectrum on a minor application fee. The report states that Starlink may need to show how intelligence agencies can intercept data if needed.
